Candy Bar Fondue

Another thing I will often do is melt candy bars for the fondue. My favorite candy bars to use are Toberlone and Symphony bars. You can use candy bars with nuts or toffee bits too for some extra flavor and crunch. Just replace the chopped chocolate with chopped candy bar.See what fun combinations you can come up with.

This is where you can really get creative! You can pretty much use anything to dip into chocolate!! I like to use a combination of sweet and salty and I like to use a tray like this to put all my dippers on.

Sweet:

  • Graham Crackers

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of chocolate should I use?

You can switch up your type of chocolate depending on your mood. I usually use a combination of milk chocolate and semi sweet chocolate, using a 2:1 ratio. If you prefer darker chocolate use semi sweet and dark chocolate. I also like to make this with white chocolate.
I prefer to use bars of chocolate rather than chips. Chop them up and they melt better and don’t harden as quickly as chocolate chips do. Use the highest quality chocolate you can for the best flavor and texture.

What kind of fondue pot should I use?

I own four different fondue pots. I actually still have my mother’s fondue pot from the 70’s! If I am doing a hot oil/meat fondue I use an electric fondue pot to get the oil hot enough and keep it at an even temperature. You can also use it for chocolate or cheese fondue but it has to be plugged in and then you have to deal with a cord and worry about someone tripping over it.
For chocolate and cheese fondue I like to use the smaller fondue pot that uses a tea light for heat. I own two of those. The trick is you just have to be sure and stir the fondue once in a while so that it doesn’t burn on the bottom as it get a bit hot in the center where the tea light is. It doesn’t heat as evenly as the electric but works well for cheese or fondue. I usually warm the cheese or chocolate in the microwave first and then put it into the fondue pot.
Another alternative is to use a small crockpot.

Fondue Variations

It is easy to add additional flavors to your chocolate fondue.

Marshmallow Fondue: Add a couple of spoonfuls of marshmallow fluff into the chocolate fondue and just swirl it around. For a prettier presentation do not stir to fully incorporate. Leaven streaks of marshmallow.

Chocolate Fondue Recipe (7)

Peanut Butter Fondue: Add a few spoonfuls of peanut butter into the chocolate fondue and stir to swirl. Leave streaks of peanut butter visable.

How do you keep chocolate fondue from clumping? ›

Double Boil Method

The double boil is a safe and simple way to keep your melting chocolate from burning and clumping. First, fill a cooking pot with about a quarter full of water. Then, grab a metal or glass mixing bowl that fits on top of the cooking pot and add the chocolate.

What are the 4 types of fondue? ›

There are four commonly prepared types of fondue: cheese fondue, chocolate fondue, oil fondue (also known as meat fondue), and broth fondue. Fondue savoyarde traditionally includes the cheeses comté, beaufort, reblochon, and abondance.

What's the best chocolate for melting? ›

The best chocolate for melting and hardening is typically couverture chocolate, which contains a higher percentage of cocoa butter. It melts smoothly and can be tempered to create a shiny, snappy finish when it hardens. Popular types include dark, milk, and white couverture chocolate.

What is the best chocolate to use in a fondue fountain? ›

If you want to have the most consistent texture and flavor for your chocolate fountain, you should use couverture chocolate, aka fondue chocolate. Couverture chocolate is specifically designed for melting, whereas normal chocolate will end up grainy and bumpy, which is not ideal.

Does leftover chocolate fondue need to be refrigerated? ›

Recipe Notes

Storage: Leftover fondue can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks and remelted over low heat.

Why is my chocolate fondue so oily? ›

Most probably temperature. Either too hot/too quickly, or if the chocolate contains both cocoa butter and a vegetable fat (which the article says), the likelihood is that they will have different melting points (which the article doesn't make clear) and may be the problem.

Why did my chocolate fondue get oily? ›

The sugar dissolves in that bit of liquid added to the chocolate and turns into gooey syrup on which cocoa particles stick. It all forms a thick and lumpy mass that separates from the cocoa butter. The separated cocoa butter gives the mass its oily appearance.

Why is my chocolate fondue not working? ›

Check the chocolate's temperature

Another common mistake is trying to encourage cold chocolate to flow. If your chocolate isn't melted properly – and the temperature maintained – then the chocolate won't continue to curtain.

Why is my chocolate fondue not flowing? ›

To resolve this, simply turn the fountain off, allow it to sit for 15-30 seconds, and turn it back on. If when turning the fountain on you see the bottom of the cylinder, additional fondue needs to be added. Repeat this procedure until the fountain is flowing at full capacity.

Why do you add oil to melted chocolate? ›

Adding a tablespoon of coconut oil or vegetable oil while microwaving helps the chocolate melt more smoothly and makes it the perfect consistency for dipping! The caveat here is that once cool, the chocolate won't set up quite as hard as it did to begin with due to the added fat content.

What type of cheese is best for fondue? ›

The best all-around cheeses for fondue are fontina, Gruyère, and gouda. If you aren't sure what to pick, use even amounts of these three. Together are lush and complex. For classic Swiss cheese fondue (meaning one like what you would find in Switzerland), a mix of traditional, firm mountain-style cheeses is best.

What are the rules of fondue? ›

Never lick the fondue pot, no matter how tempting. Never eat directly off the fondue fork. Never forget your food in the pot. Never pour the contents of the pot onto your plate.

What fruit is best dipped in chocolate? ›

There are some fruits that taste delicious when coated with chocolate, to everyone. Banana is one of these fruits. Apples also taste delicious when you coat them with rich chocolate. Oranges, on the other hand, may not be an ideal choice for your fruit platter.

What is traditionally served with fondue? ›

Bread, Crackers, and Chips

Bread is the most popular dipper for cheese fondue. There are many excellent options to choose from. French bread, breadsticks, and croutons are always favorites, but also consider multigrain bread, rye, sourdough, pumpernickel, and even bagels.
