Your recipes sound delicious, however, without nutrition values listed I am unable to use them. In my case, I definitely need to know sodium content, since I am on a restricted sodium diet of 1500 per day. Thank you.

You can just look at the sodium content on the labels of the ingredients that go in this, and tweak it a bit if you need to. That’s what I do with recipes all the time. I also use the My Fitness Pal app (they also have a website if apps aren’t your thing) sometimes to look up the nutritional information of ingredients and that helps a lot.

Hi there. This sounds yummy. Just wondering, as I don’t have a slow cooker, can I do this in the oven and if so, what temp and how long? Thanks.

    • Kelli says

I bet you can make it in the oven or on the stove top, but I honestly don’t know at what temperature because I use the slow cooker. I recommend checking a site like Allrecipes.com for suggestions. Hope that helps, Tara. 🙂

It would be most helpful if you would also post the number of servings for each recipe. What one considers a enough to serve a large family may be different for others. =)

I make beef stew every few weeks and my mom’s recipe is almost the same as yours but we add a bit of red wine. Its great, and cheaper cuts of meat, which might not be the most tender, cook great in a slow cooker.
keep the great meal ides coming.

FAQs

How do you reheat beef stew in a slow cooker? ›

Reheating leftovers in a slow cooker is not recommended. Cooked food should be reheated on the stove, in a microwave, or in a conventional oven until it reaches 165 °F. Then the hot food can be placed in a preheated slow cooker to keep it hot for serving—at least 140 °F as measured with a food thermometer.

What gives beef stew the best flavor? ›

Add spices such as turmeric, coriander and cumin at the early stage of cooking, when you are frying onions and garlic, to enhance the taste of the beef stew. Fresh herbs like coriander and bay leaves also contribute a distinct flavour without making the dish too spicy for the younger members of the family.

Is beef stew good reheated? ›

Reheating beef stew should be done gently and gradually to preserve its flavors and textures. A moderate temperature allows the internal temperature of the stew to reach 165°F, the point at which it's considered safely reheated. Overheating can cause the meat to toughen and vegetables to become mushy.

What temperature do you reheat beef stew in the oven? ›

Gently reheat beef stew in a preheated 350 degree oven until heated through, about 45 minutes. You can keep beef stew in refrigerator for 3-4 days. Some say that it is better left-over.

What's the best way to reheat slow cooked beef? ›

What not to put in a stew? ›

But the liquid itself should not be thick in the same way that gravy is thick. So skip the roux, and don't bother dusting the meat with flour or cornstarch before browning, either, as some recipes will suggest. That will just interfere with getting a good sear on the meat, and gum up the stew with unneeded starch.

What is the secret to good beef stew? ›

The best beef stews are made with the right cut of meat, like chuck roast, brisket or round. Leaner cuts (which are good for the grill) lack the connective tissue that turns into gelatin as it cooks. That keeps the meat juicy and tender while also thicken and enriching the stew.

How do you thicken reheated beef stew? ›

Mix one teaspoon cornflour with a tablespoon of room temperature water and add to your stew. Then bring to the boil and cook until desired thickness is reached. Cornflour is a great gluten-free thickener. It has a slightly more gelatinous texture, so only add a teaspoon at time or your sauce may become a bit goopy.
